Frequently asked questions

How Stenovo works, which files and languages it supports, and how your data is handled.

About Stenovo

What is Stenovo?

Stenovo turns audio and video into an accurate, searchable transcript plus a clear summary with the key points. Upload a file in the app, or use the browser extension to capture the audio playing in a tab.

How accurate is the transcription?

99.8% accurate. It is tuned for real speech, so accents, background noise and several people talking in one recording still come out right. Clean audio always gives the best results.

How long does transcription take?

Minutes. Your file is processed in the background, and the transcript and summary appear as soon as it is done — Pro files go through with the highest priority.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Stenovo runs in your browser: sign in, upload a file, read the result. The browser extension is optional — it is there for when you want to capture audio playing in a tab instead of uploading a file.

Files, formats and languages

Which file formats can I upload?

Audio and video: MP3, MP4, M4A, MOV, AAC, WAV, OGG, OPUS, MPEG, MPG, WMA and WMV.

How large can a file be?

Pro supports files up to 300 minutes or 2 GB each. If your file exceeds that limit, you can request a higher one. We review every request and reply personally by email.

Which languages can I transcribe?

57 languages, on every plan. You can pick the language yourself or let Stenovo detect it automatically.

Can I download my transcript?

Yes. Download it as PDF, TXT or SRT subtitles, with or without timestamps — or copy the transcript or the summary straight to your clipboard.

Where are my transcripts kept?

In your account, where they stay searchable. As long as you sign in with the same Google account, everything you have transcribed is waiting for you.

Privacy and security

Is it safe to upload my files?

Your files are transmitted over encrypted connections and handled using access controls, so only you can see them. We never sell your data or use your files, transcripts, or summaries for advertising. See our Privacy Policy for the details.

Does the extension record my microphone, screen or other tabs?

No. The extension only captures the audio of the specific tab you start it on, and only after you start it. It never captures your microphone, your screen or any other tab.

Can I delete my data?

Yes, and you do not need to ask us. Delete any single transcript from your library, or use Delete account in the user menu to remove your account and everything in it. If you have an active Pro subscription, cancel it in the billing portal first.

Plans and billing

Is there a free version?

Yes. Your first try is free — no account and no credit card. After you sign up you stay on a free plan that refills every week, and you can go Pro whenever you need more.

How much does Pro cost?

$10 a week, $20 a month, or $120 a year — the yearly plan works out at about $10 a month. See the pricing page for the full comparison.

What do I get on Pro?

1200 minutes of transcription and AI summaries every week, refilling automatically, unlimited files with your full transcript history, uploads up to 300 minutes or 2 GB per file, and the highest priority processing.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes, from the billing portal in your account — no email required. Pro stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for.
